A New Website for the Arranmore Blueway

A New Website for the Arranmore Blueway

Interactive route maps, GPX downloads, every brochure and big photos, all in Irish and English. The new Arranmore Blueway website is live at arranmoreblueway.ie.

The Árainn Mhór and Ailt an Chorráin Blueway has a new home online. arranmoreblueway.ie is live today, and it's built around the questions people actually arrive with: how long is the walk, how do I get to the island, and what's there when I land?

Every Route, Mapped

The Blueway has four routes across both shores. Slí Árainn Mhór loops around the island, while the Crickamore Loop, the Old Railway Walk and the Kinballycrowie Loop set out from Ailt an Chorráin.

Each route has an interactive map and an elevation profile, so you can see the hills before you meet them. On Slí Árainn Mhór, that's 14 km and 413 m of climbing. When you're ready to go, download the GPX track and bring the route with you on your phone or watch.

All the Brochures, Ready to Download

If you'd rather carry paper, the printed guides are all here as PDFs: the Blueway brochure, plus the Slí Árainn Mhór walking route in English and in Irish.

You Arrive by Water

Every visit starts with the crossing from Ailt an Chorráin (Burtonport). It takes 20 to 25 minutes, with about six sailings a day each way, and both ferry operators run all year. The Getting Here page has their details in one place.

Big Photos for Browsing

A place like this deserves more than a thumbnail, so the photos get plenty of room. Kayaking under the cliffs, a seal hauled out on the seaweed, a spin along the coast road and yoga on the beach: it's hard to look through them without checking the ferry times.

Explore What the Island Has to Offer

Discover brings together the places and people that make up the island. Find out what the CFFAM community co-operative is doing, read about the Arranmore RNLI, saving lives at sea since 1883, see Rannagh Park, home of Arranmore United and Arranmore GAA, or look up the history of the Arranmore Lighthouse.

Gaeilge agus Béarla

Árainn Mhór is a Gaeltacht island, so the site works in both languages. There's a language switch at the top of every page: one tap and the Arranmore Lighthouse becomes Teach Solais Árainn Mhór.

Kept Up to Date by Islanders

This is the part we like best. The Discover pages are powered by Seo Árainn Mhór, the mobile app where islanders share their own stories and update their own details. There's no second copy to keep current: when something changes in the app, the website has the same information.

Go and Have a Look

Whether you want to walk, cycle, snorkel, sail or kayak, start planning at arranmoreblueway.ie. We'll see you on the water, or on the hill.
