A Fresh Coat of Paint for Seo Árainn Mhór

A Fresh Coat of Paint for Seo Árainn Mhór

Bigger covers, bold tiles, a cleaner Heritage tab with audio in English and Irish, and a tidier profile. The redesigned Seo Árainn Mhór app is rolling out on Android and iOS, alongside a new website.

Seo Árainn Mhór has had a makeover. The redesigned app is rolling out now on Android and iOS, and seoarainnmhor.com has a new look to match. It's still the whole island in one app, with its businesses, events, stories and heritage, but easier to find your way around and nicer to look at.

The Whole Island, In Your Pocket

The new seoarainnmhor.com is live, with a new animated home page, fresh screenshots from the app and cover photos straight from the island's own pages. There's a page for every corner of the island, from the ferry and the lighthouse to the RNLI and the beaches. It's fully bilingual, in English and Irish, and the blog has been rebuilt too.

Tap to Explore

Open the app and the home screen is now a set of bold, coloured tiles: Things To Do, Events Calendar, Food and Drink, Transport, Accommodation, Community Services, Places of Interest and more. Tap one and the list leads with photos, so you can spot Rannagh Park, the Beaver Island Monument or Leabgarrow Beach before you read a word.

Tap any place for the full story, with a bigger cover photo and a map showing exactly where it is.

Every Page, Easier to Read

Every business, club and place on the island has a page, and every page has been rebuilt. There's a bigger cover photo up top, a cleaner header, clearer buttons for booking or getting in touch, and simple tabs for About, Photos and Posts. Cumann na mBád shows it off nicely in the video below.

If you run a page, the editor has been rebuilt too, with tabs for your profile, location, opening times, prices, photos and settings. It only asks before throwing away your changes when there's actually something to lose.

Heritage, Front and Centre

The Heritage tab tells the island's history, and it's had the biggest glow-up of all. The list has cleaner cards, each tagged when it has audio, so you can see at a glance which stories you can listen to. Open one, like the Mass Rock, and you get a bigger photo, a bolder title and a new audio player with English and Gaeilge recordings side by side. Below the story there's a map of where it happened, and sharing it is one tap away: copy the link, or send it on Facebook, X or WhatsApp.

Your Profile, Tidied Up

The profile screen now starts with your own ID card, with tidier buttons for editing your profile and signing out. Below it are clearer sections for your pages and your notifications, with one simple switch for push notifications. Settings have moved in here too, so changing between light and dark mode, or between English and Irish, is all in one place.

And Lots More

A few more things you'll notice along the way:

Update Now

The update is rolling out now, so if you don't see it yet, check again in a day or two.

Go raibh míle maith agaibh to everyone on Árainn Mhór who keeps their pages, stories and heritage up to date. The app is only as good as what you put into it, and you've made it great.
